Helping Our Youth

In 2012, PHR was awarded the management and operation of the facility formerly known as Towanda Recreation  Center by Baltimore City Parks and Recreation. PHR was granted seed money to ensure that youth programs continue at the center, now called the Towanda Community Center.

Curing Thanksgiving and Christmas of 2012, The Towanda Community Center welcomed members of the community for holiday meals. Restoring Life International Church sponsored the Thanksgiving Day Celebration. Over 300 residents attended this event and were served dinner by volunteers from the church.

After school programs began at Towanda in January 2013. The Boys and Girls Club meets Monday through Friday from 3pm to 7pm. The program is for children ages 6 to 18 and promotes and enhances the development of youth by instilling a sense: Belonging, usefulness, influence, and competence. On Tuesdays and Thursdays youth ages 12 and up participate in Aziza and Positive Energy & Children Excelling (PE&CE) programming.

These two programs are committed to improving the lives of youth physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. If you are interested in volunteering or enrolling your child in one of our after school programs, please visit the Towanda Community Center at 4100 Towanda Avenue (Mon-Fri 9 am to 5pm).

Wednesday and Friday nights, Baltimore City Entertainers marching band practices from 7pm to 9pm. Led by Tikia Neblett, the band has been practicing at Towanda for many years.

We look forward to continuing these programs and offering additional programming for the youth of Park Heights.
