Job Creation

Workforce development is a key issue an plays a vital role in neighborhood revitalization, particularly in light of this unenviable statistic: 49% of work-age adults in Park Heights are categorized as “not in the labor force.”

By partnering with the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development (MOED), PHR and PCDA started Park Heights Partnership for Jobs, a program that puts are residents to work in the community. The goal is to add more job-training slots and then work with employers to fill vacancies with Park Heights residents.

In September 2009, MOED began outreach to Park Heights residents by hosting informational sessions on how to develop “job-ready” skills. To date, many area residents have gained employment through this partnership and scores more are enrolled in training programs.
