The Gillis Memorial Grand Family Apartments & Wellness Center represents more than a housing development, it reflects a community-driven response to a real need in Park Heights.

Rooted in Gillis Memorial’s deep commitment to the community, lived experience and generations of service, the project is designed as a first-of-its-kind model providing affordable intergenerational housing for grandparents and older adults raising children, along with wellness resources that support the entire family.

The development recently received a $1.5 million 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) award, helping move plans for 50 new affordable homes closer to implementation.

This project connects directly to the work of our Community Wellness & Safety Collaborative. Understanding what families need and bringing together housing, health, wellness and community resources to create stronger support systems.

Projects like this also demonstrate why collaboration matters. Moving from planning to implementation requires City and State agencies, community organizations, developers, residents and funding partners to work together to remove barriers and move community priorities forward.

We thank Governor Wes Moore, Maryland DHCD Secretary Jake Day, Baltimore Housing Commissioner Tim Keane, Maryland and Baltimore City housing partners, Woda Cooper Companies, Gillis Memorial CDC, and the many partners helping bring this vision closer to reality.

Community development is strongest when the people shaping communities understand and respond to the needs of the people who call them home.
