Sankofa’s 6th Annual Children’s African Festival brought families together in Park Heights for a vibrant day of culture, creativity, learning, and community connection.
Throughout the festival, children and families enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, including games, arts and crafts, interactive experiences, music, local vendors, and opportunities to learn more about African culture and traditions. The day created space for young people to have fun while also learning, exploring their creativity, and building a stronger connection to culture and community.

The festival also reflects the goals of our Education/Out-of-School Network, which focuses on expanding access to meaningful learning and enrichment opportunities for children and families beyond the traditional school day. Out-of-school time experiences can play an important role in helping young people discover new interests, strengthen social connections, build confidence, and continue learning in ways that feel engaging and relevant to their everyday lives.
Events like Sankofa’s Children’s African Festival show what out-of-school learning can look like when education, culture, family engagement, and fun come together. They also demonstrate the importance of investing in experiences that give young people positive places to gather, opportunities to express themselves, and meaningful ways to learn outside of the classroom.
PHR was proud to support another successful year of the Children’s African Festival and celebrate the organizations, families, and community members who continue creating enriching experiences for Park Heights youth.
